LEILA PIÑERA AREOLA, a Career Executive Service Officer, is the current Director IV of the Bureau of Learning Delivery (BLD) of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines.
Prior to her appointment as Director, she was a former Assistant Schools Division Superintendent and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent in the Schools Division Offices of Tuguegarao City and Province of Cagayan, Region 02. She has extensive background and experience in the field of education having served the DepEd for more than 37 years in various positions
Dr. Areola is a graduate of Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.
She is a resource speaker, trainer/lecturer-demonstrator in various training programs and seminars, and recipient of awards for educators. In 2017, she was awarded Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon Pamumuno under the Values Advocacy Program of Fortune Life in partnership with Marylindbert International and DepEd. Recently, she was awarded the Gintong Medalya for Education, 2024 Dangal ng Lahing Cagayano Awardee.
She is an alumna of APEC e-Learning Training (AeLT), South Korea (2020), and a recipient of the Asian Productivity Organization Scholarship through the Development Academy of the Philippines (2021).
A staunch champion of special needs education and inclusion of Filipino learners, Director Areola is a Governing Board Member of SEAMEO SEN representing the Philippines.
