Andrew Ure is Managing Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Southeast Asia at Google. He has been with Google for over ten years, in which he has held a number of leadership roles in Australia, Hong Kong, India and Japan, and has led Google’s Public Affairs and Trade and Economic Policy engagement in Asia-Pacific.
He currently leads teams managing Google's strategic policy engagements with governments and regional institutions across Southeast Asia, advising on artificial intelligence and digital economy policy issues.
Prior to Google, he was the Managing Director of OgilvyEarth Australia, a sustainability consultancy in Sydney where he worked with the Australian Government and a number of blue-chip clients.
He previously spent a decade as a diplomat with the Australian Government. His focus was multilateral climate change negotiations where he led a team of negotiators and chaired one of four negotiating tracks under the Kyoto Protocol. He also co-chaired the World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership. Between 2005-2008, he was posted to the Australian Embassy in Iran. He has degrees from Oxford University and the Australian National University, and lives in Singapore.
