Genevieve O’Farrell has close to 20 years of experience working on environmental assessment and management of development projects, sustainability appraisal, climate risk management, capacity building, and delivery of country-orientated solutions for diverse clients across a range of sectors. She has worked for ADB for 8 years. Genevieve joined ADB Cambodia Resident Mission (CARM) at the end of 2016. She manages the CARM Gender and Safeguards Team and is responsible for environmental safeguards for Cambodia and Lao PDR portfolios. She provides guidance and training on ADB environmental safeguard and climate risk requirements for government counterparts, project management units (PMU), project implementing consultants (PIC), service providers, and contractors. She also supports strategic country initiatives such as the development of the Country Partnership Strategy, portfolio reviews, and planning.
Before moving to Cambodia, Genevieve was based in ADB Headquarters in the Philippines working for 5 years as an Environment Specialist for the East Asia Transport Department supporting the preparation and implementation of ADB investments in China People’s Democratic Republic and Mongolia. She also led technical assistance to develop a Strategic Environmental Appraisal (SEA) methodology for national sector plans for the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Before joining ADB, she worked for 11 years as an environment and ecological consultant supporting private and public sector clients for Atkins Engineering Consultancy and Cresswell Associates, first in the UK and then in the Middle East (United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Kuwait). She managed the delivery of environmental and sustainability consultancy services for master planning, engineering, and architectural projects. Genevieve holds a Master’s Degree in Conservation Management from the University College London.
