Francis Areki is Senior Technical Advisor to WWF Pacific’s Director. He has worked in the environmental and community development field for over 20 years with expertise in forestry, climate change and marine fisheries management- project design, resourcing, research and advocacy. Through WWF and as in independent consultant this has provided for a well-rounded skill set and understanding relating to Pacific environmental issues, networks and partnerships. In 2014 Francis spearheaded the implementation of a FJD 2.4 million sustainable seafood project funded by MFAT-NZAid which focused on the promotion and advocacy for a shared responsibility amongst harvesters, suppliers and consumers, for sustainable local fisheries, connecting fishing communities with targeted hotels in the hospitality sector. Between 2017-2023, he functioned first as Regional Conservation Director coordinating teams within Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Fiji and then as Fiji Conservation Director. He now currently coordinates WWF Pacific’s engagement with the Fiji Government and support to regional conservation programming and development.
