Samrat Ray has over 17 years of experience in the energy sector and has worked across the value chain from power generation, transmission, and distribution. Having worked extensively in Africa and India, on aspects like energy policy, renewable energy, energy efficiency and sector reforms on the public side, he has also been closely involved in working with the private sector on scaling renewable energy both at the grid and off grid scale, supporting private sector investment in transmission and distribution. At ADB, Samrat leads the public sector to loan to EESL which is supporting the country’s targets on scaling the use of smart meters, distributed solar energy generation to bring it closer to the consumers and e-mobility and is part of the energy sector group where he works both on the traditional energy sector and new and emerging areas of energy transition. Prior to joining ADB he has worked with Torrent Power, PricewaterhouseCoopers in India and Africa and Global Green Growth Institute in South Korea. Samrat holds a master’s degree in Energy Management and a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
