Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo is an academic leader and manager, an established researcher, an innovator, an advocate of disaster risk management, an ASEAN engineer, and a full-fledged professor.
Armed with a Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering and Doctorate degree in Management, Dr. Ronquillo was appointed President of Batangas State University in July 2014, and was uninamously reappointed for a second term in 2018.
As a university administrator, he pioneered Outcomes Based Education in the university, and spearheaded international accreditation of engineering programs under the terms of Washington Accord. It is the only state university in the country whose Engineering, and Information Technology programs are accredited by the US Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) and Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) respectively. He also initiated the revision of the curriculum to adopt Technopreneurship and Calculus-based Physics, and facilitated the modernization of laboratories and laboratory equipment, as well as library infrastructure and library automation.
Dr. Ronquillo is also a member of the Australasian Association for Engineering Education, American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also an Evaluator of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Philippine Technological Council.
In addition, he has been given numerous citations and awards in recognition of his exemplary performance and dedicated service in various areas of specialization. Some of these include being awarded as the country’s Most Outstanding Electronics Engineer in the Academe in 2013, and receiving the Presidential Award of Recognition and Outstanding Faculty of the Year in 2011 and 2005, respectively.
