The amount of plastic waste in South Korea has been increasing rapidly during the coronavirus pandemic, and the problem is becoming serious. To solve this problem, it is important for civil society to properly separate and collect used disposable waste and turn it into resources and to use reusable cups and containers instead of disposables. However, it is difficult to spread participation because it is emphasized as a sense of duty or entitlement.

Oyster Able is solving these problems with technology and innovation to help citizens recycle and reuse conveniently and enjoyably. It is working with companies and governments to build smart cities and introduce systems that practice carbon neutrality. 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Taegoan Bae is the CEO of Oyster Able, a circular economy startup providing a collection device and a reward mobile application to local governments and private companies to make reusables and recyclables circulation well in their space and area. Oyster Able drives various projects with F&B and retail companies to reduce plastic waste generated by their products and services and encourages people to join this action through the reward program. 

He studied environmental and architectural design at Dongguk University to find the solution to the waste and energy problem of buildings and cities.  He has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in architectural design in 2012 and started his career as a mechanical engineer and an architectural designer within four years.
