Aziz, a national of Tajikistan, joined ADB in 2009 as a Young Professional (Economics). In 2011-2012 he continued there as Country Economist. From 2013–to March 2015, he was a PPP Specialist at the Southeast Asia Department’s Public Management and Finance Division. From April 2015 to June 2017, he was an Infrastructure Economist in the Indonesia Resident Mission. From June 2017–June 2020, Aziz was with Azerbaijan Resident Mission as Senior Portfolio Management Specialist. From July 2020–July 2021, Aziz was Senior Financial Sector Specialist in the East Asia Department’s Public Finance, Trade, and Regional Cooperation Division.
From August 2022–June 2023, he was the Project Administration Unit Head at the Social Sector Division of the Central and West Asia Department. Since July 2023, he has been the Project Administration Unit Head at the Central West and East Asia Team of the Human and Social Development Sector Office of ADB’s Sectors Group.
Before joining ADB, from July 2004–December 2008 he was the World Bank's country officer for Tajikistan. Before that, from January 2003 to June 2004, he was the World Bank’s consultant working on Tajikistan’s public expenditure, procurement, financial accountability, and trade issues.
Aziz holds an M.Sc. degree (with distinction) in development economics and policy from the University of Manchester (UK). He has conducted his PhD research in quantitative macroeconomics at the Ruhr University (Germany) in 2000–2002. In 2014, he became a certified PPP specialist. He has accreditation in ADB’s procurement of goods and works and in the selection of consultants.
Aziz is fluent in English, German, Russian, and Tajik.
