Keisy Tarakabu has a degree in Engineering Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney. Ms. Tarakabu’s current role is that of Coastal Engineer for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy (MISE) in Tarawa, Kiribati. Ms. Tarakabu was recently appointed as a Fellow to participate in the Pacific Fellows Program sponsored by the Asian Development Bank.
Ms. Tarakabu’s work focus is on remote islands' connectivity and accessibility to boost the economy of isolated communities. Her current projects are the Reconstruction of the Nippon Causeway that connects the islands of Bairiki and Betio in South Tarawa and the South Tarawa Water Supply Project. The South Tarawa Water Supply Project has its focuses on the supply of potable water to the continual drought threatened communities in South Tarawa through the installation of a series of Reverse Osmosis plants. The Project also includes the development of an island-wide reticulation system to facilitate delivery. The South Tarawa Water Supply Project is co-sponsored by the Government of Kiribati, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank as well as receiving support from the Green Climate Fund.
