On 23 March, the Biomass Energy Project was signed between ADB and SAEL Industries Limited for the construction of five 149-megawatt biomass power plants in the districts of Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar in the state of Rajasthan, India. The plants will use agricultural residue as feedstock and should help in the country’s bid for reducing its emissions as well as diversify its energy mix.
The $91.14 million project coursed through ADB’s nonvsovereign operations will convert about 650,000 tons of agricultural residues into electricity and is expected to generate 544 gigawatt-hours of energy annually that will help avoid up to 487,200 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The project is led by Sumika Nakane.
