Series: Asian Impact: ADB Research in Action Digitalization for Gender Equity 21 March 2023 Digitalization has changed the way we learn, communicate, and work. It has also been shaping and reframing social architecture and market relations. This session explored opportunities for digital technology and platform economies to disrupt gender gaps in economic access and employment; and the challenges that call for collaborative action from policymakers, platforms, and researchers to ensure both women and men can thrive in digital ecosystems. With case studies and industry examples, the panel explored the importance of hard and soft digital infrastructure, using debiased data in structuring online platforms, and upskilling across the spectrum from both digital literacy and fostering digital talent among women and other underrepresented, underserved groups. All with the goal of creating a portfolio of livelihoods, balanced access, and opportunities for women and men online.
