Profile / Bio: 

Mr. A K Upmanyu started his career as a civil engineer in MPWRD in 1983. Initially, he worked on Kolar Multipurpose Project and rehabilitation works on Kaketo & Tigra Dams in Gwalior. He then worked with World bank & MPWSRP to successfully complete SWARA, SWARATeC buildings- the first with best-in-class tech & equipment. He also represented his state at Dam Safety Programme, held by US Bureau of Reclamation at Denver in 2007.

He worked in WRD ministry as Under Secretary for ~5 years, where he supported in getting sanctions of 500+ minor, 40+ medium & 10+ major projects and annual funding of $100M+ by Govt. of India for AIBP scheme. He then started as Superintending Er. at Dhar, where he was responsible for extending command of Mahi Major Project, to facilitate irrigation of 10K ha. This was a unique micro-irrigation project which involved converting open canals to piped canal system. He got sanctions & successfully completed 150+ minor & 2 medium projects for 100k ha., in extreme tribal areas.

He then was made the Project Director & Chief Er. of Mohanpura-Kundalia Project Mgmt. Unit in Rajgarh, where he was responsible for 2 major projects, Mohanpura & Kundalia covering an area of 285k ha. This was an ambitious programme of Govt. of MP to improve water-use efficiency to 70-80% by pressurised irrigation network, to the tune of 2.5M ha.

In his tenure of nearly 4 years, he successfully got the projects designed & sanctioned while ensuring timely completion of targeted deliverables. He has also represented Govt. of MP for his work at Kundalia Project, at Asia Water Forum in 2018.
