Profile / Bio: 

Dr. Perdinan is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics at IPB University and the Deputy Director for Administration of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP). He is also currently a technical expert of the NDC Indonesia, part of the technical expert team of GEF OFP Indonesia, and the technical team for disaster risk assessment of the National Disaster Management Agency. He is also the founder and adviser for the Generasi Hijau Indonesia (NGO), the Environmental and Technology institution (PIAREA.co.id), and the digital media creation (Kresa.id).

Dr. Perdinan has also received numerous honors and awards, some of which are the awardee of 110 Innovation Indonesia, entitled Saung Iklim in August 2018, awardee of 109 Innovation Indonesia, entitled Child Centered Climate Change Adaptation in August 2017, Indonesian Ambassador Award for Excelled on August 17, 2012, Fulbright Presidential Scholarship Award for Doctoral Study in the United States from 2008 to 2013, Australian Development Scholarship Award for Master Study in Australia from 2006 to 2007, and the Bank Central Asia Scholarship for Bachelor Study in Indonesia from 1998 to 2002.

He has several research projects experience in the field of climate change and health, most recently Indonesia’s Adaptation Communication, Development of Indonesia’s Climate Change Landscape Analysis for Children, Expert of Development of Early Action Protocol for Forecast-Based Early Action Project (FbA) in Indonesia, the impacts of climate change on Indonesian agriculture, and Climate Risk and Impact Analyst on different sectors, e.g. food, water, energy, and ecosystem. He has also contributed to several publications, of which recently published are the Evaluation of Multiple Approaches to Estimate Daily Solar Radiation for Input to Crop Process Models, Climate Smart Actions “Saung Iklim” for Smallholder Farmers in Subang District, West Java, Indonesia, Students' Understanding of Climate Change in Prone Areas Exposed to the Impact of Climate Change, and Community-based Climate Change Adaptation Actions: A Lesson Learn from East Lombok, Meteorological Services for Forecast Based Early Actions in Indonesia, Lesson learned from Smart Rice actions in Indonesia, Changing Human Landscapes under a Changing Climate: Considerations for Climate Assessments, Selection of Climate Information for Regional Climate Change Assessments using Regionalization Techniques: An Example For The Upper Great Lakes Region, USA.

 

Dr. Perdinan received a Ph.D. in Geography with a Specialization in Environmental Science and Policy from Michigan State University in the USA, a Master's Degree in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Queensland in Australia, and a Bachelor Degree in Agrometeorology from IPB University in Indonesia.
