ADBI Featured Speaker Webinar: European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s Alexander Plekhanov on Business Unusual Transition Report
This ADBI Featured Speaker webinar spotlighted Alexander Plekhanov of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), who presented EBRD’s 2022-23 Transition Report on the policy implications of “business unusual” conditions in the global economy.
He discussed the effects of COVID-19-induced debt accumulation, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, people displacement in Europe, and supply chain bottlenecks that have led to soaring energy and food prices. He will also assess shifting trade patterns in Central Asia and the Caucasus.
About the Speaker
Alexander Plekhanov is the Director of Transition Impact and Global Economics at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. He edits EBRD’s annual economic report, the Transition Report, and the Regional Economic Prospects report. Previously, he covered economic developments in Russia, Belarus, Mongolia, Central Asia, and a number of other economies. He joined EBRD in October 2007. Prior to that, he worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Cambridge.
