Profile / Bio: 

Dr Anoja Wickramasinghe is an Emeritus Professor of Geography, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She has significantly contributed to the field of energy, forestry, resource management, rural development, poverty, and also as a policy and institutional analyst, gender activist, community mobiliser and trainer. She has served as a consultant to several international and national agencies including the UNDP, FAO, IFAD, World Bank, and Millennium Challenge Cooperation as the national expert on Gender and Social inclusion in Lands and Transport Sector in Sri Lanka. Her work focuses heavily on forest landscapes, climate change mitigation, gender and social inclusion, transformative action, energy access and livelihood development, community forestry and biomass energy development, social and environmental safeguards and land resource management.

She has published several books including an annotated bibliography on Gender and Energy in South Asia funded by ENERGIA, and over 100 research articles. She possesses extensive experience in undertaking collaborative projects including research. She coordinated the Collaborative Regional Research Network in South Asia funded by the British Council, and as the focal point for ENERGIA International Network, she leads the National Network on Gender, Energy and Environment.

Dr Wickramasinghe has a BA (Hons) from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, an MSc in Applied Geomorphology and Natural Resource Management, Post Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources Research and Land Evaluation and a PhD in Forest Ecology from the University of Sheffield, UK. She also works closely with different non-government and government stakeholders especially with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in advocating and enhancing its capacity to improve accountability for multisectoral development.
