With increasing Universal Health Coverage, expanding health insurance schemes, and the desire for better disease surveillance comes the need for unique health identification.

Michael Stahl provides an overview of the status of unique identification in the health sector in ADB member countries and explains how the Regional Malaria and other Communicable Disease Threats Trust Fund is supporting them on their journey towards unique health identifiers. He explains why unique health IDs are important for patient-centered care and explain how Cambodia and Viet Nam are solving the challenges with identifying patients in the health sector.
