Transforming agriculture to (re-)build, rather than exhaust, livelihoods and nature requires knowledge, resources and motivation from farmers. Piet focuses on innovating the sustainability of production systems at Olam Food Ingredients (ofi) and is based in Singapore.
In early 2017, he joined Olam to jointly develop, adapt and apply technologies, approaches and services that improve the productivity, profitability, and carbon footprint of Olam's coffee plantations as well as its (smallholder) supply landscape.
Piet holds a PhD in agricultural and environmental sciences from Wageningen University with a strong focus on soil science, crop production, farming systems, smallholder producers, innovation partnerships and sustainable development. Prior to his work at Olam, he worked for twenty years as an Africabased CGIAR scientist on systems innovations from plant level to policy action.
