Profile / Bio: 

Ian is a circular economy and biotechnology professional specializing in the valorization of waste biomass to address climate change and sustainable development goals.

He has a wide range of practical experience in microbial biotechnology in food and agriculture, aquaculture, water and wastewater, waste management, bioremediation, and pharmaceuticals. He has been an independent consultant since 2005. In 2012 he founded DMFP, a probiotics manufacturing business for the poultry and livestock industry in the Philippines.

Ian served as Vice-Secretary of the Bangkok-based Asian Food and Feed Insects Association from 2018 to 2020 contributing on research, community development, food safety and security, education and awareness. In 2020 he worked as the R&D specialist for the largest vertical farm in Thailand producing edible cricket flour for the European market. 

Ian holds a masters and bachelors degree in Microbiology. He taught undergraduate courses in environmental science, biology, and microbiology for more than a decade, and was an associate researcher on appropriate technologies in community development.

He is a member of the Climate Reality Project Philippines and was fortunate to be trained by former US Vice President Al Gore in Manila in 2016. He also served as an advisory committee member of the International Biochar Initiative from 2013 to 2018. He is an advocate of soil regeneration for child nutrition and development, and to reverse global warming.
