Series: Gender Month 2022: Women Leading Towards An Equal, Greener and More Resilient Future Joint Gender, Climate, Environment Session Highlights Women’s Leadership in Tackling Climate Change 11 March 2022 As part of ADB’s Gender Month celebrations, the Gender Equality, Climate Change, and Environment thematic groups hosted a session entitled, “What will it take to tackle climate change?”. SDCC Director General Bruno Carrasco, in his opening remarks, reiterated that as Asia and the Pacific’s climate bank, ADB is working across the region to support developing member countries to achieve an inclusive, resilient, and green future. The session featured Katharine Hayhoe, accomplished speaker, author, atmospheric scientist, and Chief Climate Scientist for The Nature Conservancy. In her keynote speech, Dr. Hayhoe underscored that climate change affects our ability to eliminate poverty, eliminate hunger, provide good health and well-being, quality education, and tackle gender equality. To ensure gender equality, we must tackle climate change. Samantha Hung, Chief of Gender Equality Thematic Group, moderated the discussion. Noelle O’Brien, Chief Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Thematic Group, closed the session by calling for more strategic regional partnerships to ensure that climate actions are inclusive and gender-responsive.
