10 October 2014
Manila
Philippines

This learning event focused on the urban Nexus project, which adheres to the principle of integrated urban planning, particularly in the areas of water, food, and energy. The approach is anchored on the introduction of innovative engineering technologies and implementation of pilot projects. Examples of proposed pilot projects include the thermo-technical retrofitting of state-owned schools and kindergarten in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; decentralized waste-to-energy project in Naga City, Philippines; low-cost housing for informal sectors in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, Philippines; wastewater collection using vacuum system in Danang, Viet Nam; and the restoration and development of Lamkoowai Waterway with community participation in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ, UN ESCAP, ICLEI, and partner cities spread across six Asian countries.
