Anna Marie Karaos is the Associate Director of John J Carroll Institute on Church and Social Issues, a non-government organization specializing in advocacy-oriented research on issues affecting the urban poor, farmers, fisherfolk, and children in the Philippines. She is also a faculty member of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Ateneo de Manila University. Her professional work has mostly centered on urban governance and poverty, particularly housing and resettlement policy, working in partnership with community-based organizations that seek to institutionalize the practice of people’s planning in government social housing programs. Anna Marie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University, an MPhil degree in Economics and Politics of Development from the University of Cambridge, and a doctorate degree in Sociology from the New School for Social Research.
