LEAP 7: Lessons from “e-Conomy SEA 2021: Roaring 20s: The SEA Digital Decade"

In the 7th LEAP Series, Ms. Geia Lopez, Industry Analytical Head, Google Southeast Asia, discussed Southeast Asia’s digital economy citing the evolution of consumer behavior, insights about how merchants adopted digital services, market performance across SEA digital marketplaces including e-commerce, transport, and food, online travel, online media, and financial services. She shared future investment trends and prospects of SEA’s internet economy. The discussion also raised the: importance of investment in ICT and logistics infrastructure, the need to invest in skills and talent, the need to strengthen data flows, regulations, and cybersecurity; addressing the digital divide, and strengthening regional cooperation to plug tax loopholes address digital taxation. James Villafuerte of SERC moderated the discussion.
