Julia Newton-Howes

Dr. Julia Newton-Howes is CEO of Investing in Women, an Australian Government initiative to catalyse women’s economic opportunity in South East Asia by improving workplace gender equality in the private sector; increasing intentional impact investments in women’s SMEs; and shifting gender norms which limit women in the world of work.

 

Julia joined Investing in Women in November 2016 after spending 9 years as CEO of CARE Australia, one of Australia’s largest humanitarian and development organisations, where she promoted the case for gender equality and women’s empowerment in complex political and social environments in 23 countries. She has held senior positions in different geographies over her 25 years in international development, including advisor to the board at The World Bank and Assistant Director-General at the Australian Agency for International Development. Her board memberships have included the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) and CARE International.
