Dr. Caren Grown is Senior Technical Advisor in the Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment Global Practice at the World Bank. From 2014-2021, she served as Global Director, Gender at the World Bank Group. Prior to joining the Bank, Dr. Grown was Economist-In-Residence and Co-Director of the Program on Gender Analysis in Economics at American University in Washington, D.C. Over the course of her career, Dr. Grown held several senior positions, including as Senior Gender Advisor at USAID and Director of the Economics Team at the International Center for Research on Women. Dr. Grown’ s publications include Taxation and Gender Equity (Routledge 2010) and Taking Action: Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering Women (Earthscan Press 2005). Her articles have appeared in World Development, Journal of International Development, and The Lancet. She holds a PhD and MA in Economics from the New School for Social Research and a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
