Dr. Katsumi Emura is Executive Vice President and CTO (chief technology officer) of NEC Corporation. He is head of the Intellectual Property Management Division, responsible for all of NEC’s research and intellectual property rights (IPR) management. Since joining NEC as a researcher at the Opto-Electronics Research Laboratories in 1982, Dr. Emura has held numerous leadership positions, including head of product planning and business development for transport products and general manager of NEC’s Research Planning Division. In 2010, Dr. Emura was promoted to associate senior vice president of NEC Corporation and executive general manager of the Central Research Laboratories. Dr. Emura was named CTO of the company in 2016. Dr. Emura was a visiting researcher at Bellcore (USA) from 1987 to 1988. In 1992, he earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Tokyo.
