Vasco is a Project Manager with Eawag-Sandec and a member of their Strategic Environmental Sanitation Planning Group. He specializes in sanitation and wastewater management solutions for development, focusing on urban infrastructure delivery in informal settlements and sustainable operation and maintenance of water, sanitation, and health (WASH) delivery services combined with information technology management.
Vasco is coordinating the ConCaD initiative, which aims to build the capacity of consultants and consulting firms to conceptualize, plan, design, and supervise the implementation of citywide inclusive sanitation services. He also led the QUISS research project, a three-country study identifying key criteria of what constitutes “acceptable quality” shared toilets in urban low-income contexts.
Along with being a project manager, he is a visiting lecturer at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, University of Lausanne, and the Technical University of Berlin, with special interests in the development of application-oriented knowledge products and training materials for practitioners who are dealing with challenging public health contexts around the globe.
