Training for Internal Auditors in the Public Sector: An Alternative Approach for State Internal Auditors

Internal audit is vital for public sector organizations to achieve accountability and integrity, improve operations, and instill confidence among citizens and stakeholders. Yet despite the crucial part audit plays, many countries view internal audit certifications as an advantage for individuals, rather than a mandatory requisite to practice internal auditing in the public sector. This, along with individual country’s unique regulatory environment, makes standardizing the competencies required of public sector internal auditors a challenge.
