This paper featured case studies of NPL reduction frameworks and policies implemented by ASEAN+3 countries during and after the Asian financial crisis. An analysis of country experiences of legal, regulatory, and supervisory framework institutional capacity and corporate debt restructuring reforms showed that the measures also facilitated the operation of AMCs. The policy considerations for Asia include strengthening existing frameworks, developing an NPL market, and enhancing regional financial cooperation and integration to identify and mitigate possible spillovers and contagion from cross-border activities.
