Water, energy and food security are three vital sleaze factors that decide the existence and development of a nation. A recent study done in Karnataka, the second-largest arid region in India, revealed that Agricultural Demand Side Management (Ag-DSM) along with the promotion of best irrigation practices with strong policy support can save both electricity and water, creating better food security and a stronger future.

The approach and methodology were designed in such a way that the study captured all facts and figures like electricity usage pattern- historical data & existing scenario through load research, pump audits, energy efficiency potential, policy interventions, water conservation potential, and best operational practices. The study promotes the use of energy-efficient irrigation pump sets by careful evaluation of the specific scenario. It identified innovative irrigation and policy measures adopted by the government of Karnataka which can inspire many states and nations that suffer from an acute water crisis.
