Introduction to Wetland Ecosystem Services and Payment for Ecosystem Services

Knowing and appreciating the ecosystem benefits that are derived from the natural environment improves our ability to preserve benefits or understand the trade-offs. Similarly, putting a ‘value’ on nature allow users to commit to its conservation, protection, and optimal use.

The benefits are often categorized into four (4) main services, namely, provisioning, regulating, cultural, and supporting services. Understanding these services are useful in the context of project developers and managers. The session was followed by an open forum guided by the question, “What are your top three ecosystem services?”
