The Government of Nepal initiated the Melamchi Water Transfer Project in 1997 to meet the growing demand for water in the capital city, Kathmandu. The project was officially rolled out in year 2000, and since then became instrumental in providing water supply to at least one-fourt of the city.

While there have been benefits, challenges still remain. This presentation outlines the benefits, lessons learned, and some areas for improvement of the Melamchi Water Transfer Project.
