Learn about the safe system approach, a fundamental shift in thinking required of road authorities.

There are substantial challenges associated with embedding road safety management approaches and the safe system approach within the collective and individual operations of road safety agencies. Safe system requires a new and different approach to risk assessment and to interventions with the goal of long term elimination of deaths and serious injuries. Embedding road safety management and safe system capacity within agencies requires reforming government agency understanding or training; incorporating road safety within activities; and reviewing and changing policies, guidelines, and systems.
