Managing Infectious Medical Waste during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Energy SG stepping up to support ADB response to COVID-19As the whole ADB organization positions itself to urgently provide the necessary support to its DMCs in fighting the spread of the new coronavirus, the Energy Sector Group has also geared up its experts and shifted some of its work accordingly.

Energy SG through its waste-to-energy expert worked with various sections of the bank including SDSS, health, urban sectors, and operations to come up with a briefer on Managing Infectious Medical Wastes during the COVID-19 that walks ADB DMCs through assessing their capacities in managing infectious wastes as well as provide them with practical recommendations to improve disposal. Energy SG is also preparing a technical assistance proposal that will demonstrate the benefits and viability of virus-resilient and energy-efficient centralized air conditioning systems.

To support the One ADB approach in expediting project processing for COVID-19 projects, Energy SG has mobilized the various energy and finance expertise across different regional departments. A few knowledge products on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy sector’s response have been prepared and are due to be released in the coming months. The blog on developing local solar PV value chains has been published. Two more blogs that are in the pipeline are due to be released in the next two months. Finally, ACEF 2020 will go virtual on the same week it was scheduled to be held, 15-19 June 2020. It will have a symposium on COVID-19: Its Impact on Energy and the Environment.
