Risk Climate and Adaptation: Fostering Resilience Through Innovation

11 October 2019

As a consequence of rapid urbanization and climate change, flood events have become more frequent over the last decades, adversely impacting societal development and economic growth. The recent years have seen growing interest in devising risk-based approach offers opportunities to design cost efficient strategies across all segments of the risk management cycle, from mitigation to financial risk transfer. Through a series of swift presentations, Dr. Julien Oliver, Flood Risk Specialist at DHI, will present technologies and practical approaches to support active management of extreme weather risks and adaptation to climate change. The session will showcase innovative solutions recently implemented by DHI and its partners including; the decision support systems deployed in Singapore and Denmark to identify optimal climate adaptation investments, cost-effective methods to produce regional elevation models and bathymetries, and cloud-based solutions to support novel parametric insurance schemes in the Philippines and the Pacific Island Countries.
