Progress on the Global Plastics Treaty: Outcomes and Insights from the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee Process (Circular Economy Webinar Series Session 37)
With millions of tons of plastic produced annually and plastic waste driving environmental and climate concerns, the Global Plastics Treaty will be key in reshaping policies and investments to end plastic pollution in Asia and the Pacific. This webinar unpacks key outcomes from the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) on the Global Plastics Treaty in Busan, Republic of Korea, where countries made substantial progress in refining the draft text but were unable to reach a final consensus.
This session will provide critical insights into the treaty discussions, the challenges ahead, and implications for the region. The webinar will also explore opportunities for financing, innovation, regional cooperation, and ADB’s role in supporting countries with plastic pollution reduction to align with future global commitments.
