Net Zero Energy Innovation: Developing a Needs-Based Innovation Ecosystem Supported by Government and SMEs
29 October 2025

As countries look to support decarbonisation, energy security, and reliability, they are increasingly turning to innovative solutions and small companies to provide the necessary change. Through appropriate stimulation of collaboration and market entry strategies, governments are able to streamline the adoption of these technologies using intermediaries such as Catapults and other organisations. By working to understand needs at a deeper level, genuine change can be delivered by leveraging new technologies and small, nimble companies.

This webinar brings together the Energy Systems Catapult from the UK to discuss their role in accelerating innovation across the energy system and to highlight their flagship programme, Innovating for Transport and Energy Systems, which recently concluded in India.

Participants will also hear from some UK innovators currently working to develop their international markets with support from the Catapult, and how their technologies can benefit ADB DMCs.

Participants will gain insights into:

  • Successful methodologies for developing solutions using a combination of in-country resources and international collaboration;
  • An understanding of innovation ecosystems between partner countries; and
  • Innovations and how they can be supported to access markets and provide rapid change.

The knowledge event is the 12th of a series organized by the Emerging Areas Team, Energy Sector Office. The Emerging Areas created under ADB’s New Operating Model aim to operationalize frontier technologies and integrated solutions, foster and drive innovation in policy and operational issues, catalyze thought leadership and future looking bank wide initiatives for future business, collaborate across departments for innovative solutions, identify and develop knowledge and flagship events, and mobilize cofinancing.
