NBER East Asian Seminar on Economics 2023: Foreign Exchange and Capital Flows
This National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) seminar featured new research on foreign exchange and capital flows, with a focus on Asian economies. The event helped to shed light on optimal monetary policy options in crisis times, the interaction of monetary and fiscal policies, macroprudential and capital flow management policy effectiveness, and the role of policy coordination among central banks at the global level.
The seminar featured keynote remarks from Haruhiko Kuroda, former Bank of Japan Governor as well as leading economists such as Barry Eichengreen of the University of California, Berkeley, Shang-Jin Wei of Columbia University, Anne O. Krueger of Johns Hopkins University, and Stiijn Claessens of the Bank for International Settlements. The seminar has been curated by Columbia University’s Takatoshi Ito and the National University of Singapore's Andrew K. Rose.
