Solid waste management (SWM) has become a big challenge for Asian cities due to the rapid urbanization in Asia. As identified in the Urban Operational Plan (UOP, 2012-2020), for most Asian cities, the major difficulties for SWM are finding suitable sites, identifying appropriate technology, and financing for a city-wide facility. This program on Study Tour on Integrated Solid Waste Management and Other Urban Development Issues, in line with ADB Strategy 2020 and the UOP, provided an opportunity for ADB staff to learn ongoing professional development in the solid waste sector and private sector financing.
