Insight Thursday: Scaling Up Local Adaptation Measures Through Climate-Responsive Decentralization Processes
15 February 2024

This session explained the inter-relationship between climate adaptation solutions, a decentralized system of governance, and climate resilience. It highlighted how local governments played a critical role in climate resilience as they had a mandate to deliver public services and execute public investments. They also possessed local and Indigenous knowledge and understanding of local circumstances, patterns of climate change, needs, and preferences, so they were able to provide locally tailored responses. Local governments likewise implemented integrated solutions since they could coordinate more effectively with concerned agencies and authorities on the ground.
