Healthy Rivers: Connecting Rural and Urban Water

Netherlands

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in collaboration with the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and other Dutch organisations, will organize the 2026 Asia-Netherlands Water Learning Week (ANWLW) from 20–24 April 2026 in the Netherlands.

The ANWLW is a week-long intensive program that will bring together project teams from across Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s developing member countries (DMCs) with water experts from the Netherlands. Through lectures, interactive sessions, and field visits, ANWLW will serve as a platform for project teams to share challenges and real-world experiences, while gaining knowledge and insight into innovative water solutions.

Objectives

ANWLW 2026 will tackle the topic of “Healthy Rivers,” addressing the critical challenges in ensuring the sustainability and resilience of river systems, particularly in the face of climate change, economic shocks, and demographic shifts. By collaborating with dedicated experts from the Netherlands water sector, participants will learn about integrated river management strategies and solutions, river basin planning, nature-based solutions, and catchment restoration. Emphasis will be placed on adapting these solutions to the unique contexts of DMCs.

Goals

ANWLW 2026 aims to:

  • Strengthen participants’ ability to design and implement integrated healthy rivers projects
  • Build practical skills in systems thinking, cross-sector coordination, and innovation
  • Improve confidence in translating global knowledge into ADB-ready project solutions
