Series: Joint Multilateral Development Bank Pavilion Financing Landscape Restoration at Scale 19 October 2026 Armenia Healthy landscapes are the foundation of resilient economies, sustainable jobs, thriving communities, and biodiversity conservation. From forests and wetlands to rangelands, watersheds, and agricultural mosaics, restored landscapes provide critical ecosystem services that underpin water security, food production, climate resilience, and economic opportunity. Yet achieving restoration at scale requires more than technical solutions. It demands effective policies, sustained public investment, innovative financial instruments, private sector participation, and strong community engagement. This session will explore how countries are mobilizing public and private finance to transform landscape restoration into a driver of inclusive growth, green jobs, and long-term resilience. The discussion will showcase Armenia's RESILAND Project, which combines multiple sources of financing, government leadership, and community-based approaches to restore forests, wetlands, and protected areas while promoting sustainable livelihoods and job creation through ecotourism, agroforestry, community forestry, and nature-based enterprises. The Armenia experience demonstrates how restoration investments can generate economic opportunities while strengthening biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. The event will also showcase experiences from other World Bank Group-supported initiatives, including China's growing role as a global knowledge provider on ecological restoration. Through the China-WBG Global Center for Ecological Systems and Transitions (CWGC), the World Bank Group and China's Ministry of Finance are creating a platform for sharing lessons, innovations, and best practices on ecosystem restoration, natural capital, and nature-positive development. The Center promotes integrated approaches that bring together science, policy, finance, private sector participation, and community engagement, while emphasizing natural capital as a foundation for economic prosperity and planetary health. The discussion will be framed within the World Bank's Livable Landscapes Academy, a global learning platform that connects practitioners, policy makers, communities, researchers, and investors to exchange practical knowledge on managing landscapes for development, biodiversity, climate, and livelihoods. Through the Academy and partners such as the CWGC, lessons from successful restoration initiatives are being shared across regions to accelerate implementation and scaling. The event will highlight experiences from these and other countries demonstrating how restoration can create jobs, strengthen value chains, improve productivity, mobilize private investment, and build more resilient local economies. Bringing together governments, development partners, private investors and businesses, and practitioners, the session will identify practical pathways for making landscape restoration investable and scalable. Participants will explore how innovative financing mechanisms, blended finance solutions, nature-based business models, and knowledge-sharing platforms can help countries achieve their restoration ambitions while delivering tangible benefits for people, nature, and economic development. The central message is clear: investing in landscapes is not simply an environmental objective, it is an investment in jobs, growth, resilience, and shared prosperity.
