ECOBRICKS: A Circular Economy Solution to Transform Plastic Waste into Sustainable Concrete (Circular Economy Webinar Series Session 11)

02 February 2023

The built environment and the construction industry are major contributors to the planet's greatest environmental challenges - plastic waste and carbon emissions.  There is a common misconception that these are separate and unrelated issues.  However, they are very much interdependent, and we cannot solve one without the other.   As more and more countries and companies commit to bold zero waste and net zero carbon emission targets, large-scale and widely adoptable innovations and new technologies are needed today if these ambitious goals are to become a reality.

EcoBricks has developed a proven and validated circular economy solution to plastic waste that can upcycle virtually any type of plastic into certified industry-grade concrete products.  This solution allows for the vast majority of plastic waste generated by our built environment that currently ends up in landfills, dumps or the oceans to be transformed into valuable recycled raw materials for the most consumed man-made material in the world.  At the same time, the solution significantly lowers the carbon footprint of concrete by reducing the need for mining, processing, and long-distance transportation of natural raw materials and instead replacing them with local plastic waste.
