Dig Once Approach 4 July 2024 One of the key obstacles to greening road transportation is the cost and disruption associated with retrofitting existing roads and energy networks to accommodate charging infrastructure. The Dig Once Approach presents a potential solution to address this challenge. Generally, Dig Once is an umbrella term that is used to describe a variety of policies and approaches that ensure the coordination of infrastructure projects so that the number of excavations are limited. The webinar covered the theory of the Dig Once approach, before examining a specific application via the Green Arch project in the Netherlands wherein the Dig Once approach was part of the solution to the design and construction of a 2.2-km long tunnel catering to high-speed trains, regular trains and road traffic. The project is carbon neutral through solar power and autonomous active infrastructure, which allows for power storage.
