Book Launch Webinar: Infrastructure Spillover Impacts in Developing Asia
Quality infrastructure development could give developing Asia a critical boost by enhancing growth and eradicating poverty, especially during the time of economic crisis. However, the growing demand for public funds for health, education, and social welfare programs diminishes the allocation of public funds for infrastructure. Policy makers are constantly looking for financing solutions to attract private investment needed to tackle the region’s infrastructure investment gap.
Successful infrastructure projects can induce positive spillover effects on economic growth, employment, and trade. The extent of these effects depends on factors such as the quality of construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure, interconnectivity, population density, income, and access to finance. This webinar launched the new ADBI Press book Infrastructure Spillover Impacts in Developing Asia, which examines the spillover effects of information and communications technology, transport, and water infrastructure on tax revenues, profit, and trade in India; the Kyrgyz Republic; Taipei,China; Azerbaijan; Georgia; Kazakhstan; Mongolia; and Kazakhstan.
The webinar spotlighted insights from the book that describe infrastructure projects’ positive spillover effects on tax revenues and firm performance. It also discussed how to attract private sector investment in infrastructure projects by creating a steady stream of income for the prospective investors.
