ADBI-SMU Conference on Digital Finance and Sustainability
Digital transformation is central to enhancing economies’ productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable development. Digital finance and trade play an important role in these dynamics, with sound and efficient domestic and cross-border digital payments systems increasingly crucial for reducing inequality and enhancing economic integration. Moreover, a new strand of research on sustainable digital finance and green financial technology (fintech) has emerged in recent years and could deliver new environmental sustainability breakthroughs.
This ADBI-Singapore Management University (SMU) virtual conference, with a focus on Asia, featured new research on digital finance and its implications for sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Included areas of exploration were the role of digital finance in economic resilience, digital payment systems and economic efficiency, how digital finance can affect environmental sustainability and sectoral productivity, and sustainable digital finance and green fintech-related issues.
Objectives:
- Examine the impact of digital finance on sustainable economic development in Asia
- Spotlight the channels through which digital finance affects sustainable outcomes
- Discuss current and future sustainable development challenges for policy makers posed by digital finance
