ADBI-KIPO-USPTO Workshop on Patents for Innovation 21 October 2021 Innovation is crucial to resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth and prospects for early COVID-19 recovery in Asia and the Pacific. Patents are essential tools for driving innovation in the region, incentivizing innovators with certain exclusive rights and fair returns, and disclosing information on new breakthroughs to the public. However, creating a strong patent system that can ensure the integrity of innovators' work is highly costly and will require greater prioritization of intellectual property policy and resource mobilization. Cohosted by ADBI, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), this workshop examined the role of patents in enabling innovation and COVID-19 recovery in Asia and the Pacific. Session 1 discussed patent-innovation dynamics and ways to improve patent systems for innovation-driven growth. Session 2 described cost-effective patent institutions and information systems, and best practices for enhancing the region’s patent regimes. See more about this ADBI event.
