Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal on Halving Road Deaths and Injuries: Impacts and the Role of Infrastructure 12 September 2016 Philippines Among one of the most challenging targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is the target to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2020. The inclusion of road safety in the SDGs is belated recognition that road crashes lead to appallingly high numbers of death and debilitating injury, which places a huge cost to development, society, and the economy. This interactive workshop examined the safety and economic benefits of achieving the said SDG target and assessed the role that road infrastructure can play in advancing road safety.
