Through the technical assistance project, Indonesia: Electric Transportation and Charging Infrastructure, the Electric Motorcycle Charging Infrastructure Road Map for Indonesia was prepared to assess how Indonesia can pave the way for the shift to electric motorcycles by developing its motorcycle charging infrastructure. There are more than 120 million motorcycles estimated to be in use in Indonesia, which makes this mode of transportation among the major component of road transport in the country. Electric motorcycles, however, constitute a negligible share of the total number of units in use that has been steadily growing in recent years. This roadmap takes on best practices from other countries to provide a pathway and policy recommendations for Indonesia to develop its motorcycle charging infrastructure. Shifting to electric motorcycles will provide considerable benefits for Indonesia by reducing air and noise pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and reliance on fuel imports.
