This brief shares findings from an ADB study on plastic waste in the People's Republic of China (PRC) and makes policy recommendations to strengthen the country’s response to its plastic waste challenge. The brief explains the extent of the plastic waste challenge in the country and current efforts to address this challenge. It recommends further policy actions are needed to scale up recycling, foster greater use of bio-based alternative materials, and to promote the uptake of integrated circular waste management approaches.
