Energy SG Strategy Session will be on 28 January

The next critical part after having a new Energy Policy is preparing its implementation. This year’s Strategy Session of the Energy Sector Group will zero in on precisely this. Apart from preparing the guidance notes[1], we are also expected to draft the Energy Sector Framework that would contain among others the results framework for the Energy Policy.

But more crucial than these documentary requirements are the content, direction, and targets that the discussions during the session should be able to draw. The sector is at an important juncture to set the course towards helping ADB developing member countries meet their climate targets, refocus interventions towards making per dollar of investment bring more low-carbon results, and maximizing synergies between regions and sectors to create more co-benefits. These are interesting times albeit challenging because the world must live with the corona virus. But it is also amid setbacks that innovation will thrive.

The Energy Strategy Session is open to everyone in the energy sector who may want to listen in. Please get in touch with the Secretariat for the meeting link and details. It will be on 28 January from 2 to 5pm (Manila) on Zoom.

[1] The topics include: the Energy Sector alignment with the Paris Agreement, gas, large hydropower, and waste to energy.
